Black Milk
withheld letters from the death camps of Transnistria
»Memory is part of the essential nature and men ́s need«
Gustav Droysen
Only what remains in memory, has the opportunity to become part of history. The Shoah is considered as an important reference point for memory, remembrance an identity in Central and Western Europe an has become a central part of the political and scientific culture. In Eastern Europe - where the vast majority of victims came from - this is largely missing, although now peu à peu opposing movements apply.
Situated between Dniester and Bug Transnistria, where from 1941 to 1944 estimated 145.000 to 410.000 people were killed, is nowhere part of the discussion, what hereby should be amended.
The intention of "black milk" is to digitize, transcribe, translate and publish undelivered letters from victims to preserve them as authentically as possible for posterity..
